Save On Insurance by Skipping These Car Models
Summary: You know that your driving record and where you live help determine how much you’ll pay for auto insurance. But the car that you drive also has a significant impact on your auto insurance rates. Click through to see which cars are the most expensive to insure.
Insurance providers analyze plenty of information when setting auto insurance rates. That includes looking at how often certain car makes and models are involved in accidents, or are broken into or stolen. Insurers also look at the safety features of car models and how expensive a vehicle is to repair.
All these factors can influence how much you pay for auto insurance.
If you buy a car that is involved in a higher number of accidents, you can expect to pay more to insure it. The same holds true if you buy a vehicle that is broken into more frequently. That’s because when you purchase one of these vehicles, your odds of filing an insurance claim go up.
And when you file a claim, that costs your insurer money. To make up for the increased risk of insuring your vehicle, providers will charge you a higher rate for your policy.
What vehicles cost more to insure today?
Insure.com ranked the most and least expensive cars to insure in 2025. Topping the list of most expensive vehicles to insure this year? The Maserati Quattroporte, which Insure.com says costs an average of $7,090 a year to insure.
This isn’t surprising. The Quattroporte is a luxury car. And while luxury cars boast top performance and high-end amenities, they are also more expensive to repair or replace. Because of this, luxury cars like the Quattroporte are more expensive to insure.
Luxury cars can also drive at excessively high speeds, boosting the risk that drivers will get into accidents. They are also tempting targets for car thieves.
Another Maserati car, the Ghibli, came in second on Insure.com’s list, costing an average of $6,386 a year to insure. Coming in third was the BMW M8 Gran Coupe, at an average of $5,985 a year. Next came the Audi RS7 at an average of $5,792 a year; the Nissan GT-R, $5,637; BMW M8, $5,552; Audi e-tron GT, $5,528; Audi RS6, $5,516; and Audi S8, $5,487.
What cars are the least expensive to insure?
If you don’t want to spend that much on auto insurance, you can also explore some of the cars that are the least expensive to insure. Insure.com also ranked these vehicles. And coming in as the car that costs the least to protect? The Honda CR-V, which Insure.com says costs an average of $1,932 a year to insure.
Second on the list was the Honda HR-V, which costs an average of $1,936 to insure. The Volkswagen Tiguan costs an average of $1,979 a year to insure; the Hyundai Venue, an average of $1,999; the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, $2,012; and the Subaru Forester, $2,013.
Of course, these figures may change from year to year, and your situation may be different. But in general, if you want to spend the lowest amount on auto insurance, then the message is clear: Stay away from high-end luxury cars and focus on more moderately priced vehicles.
